In America, few things bring one more fame and fortune than a sex scandal. Just ask Kim Kardashian. And Vanessa Hudgens.
Or maybe a certain, former lead singer of Kiss now that a Gene Simmons sex tape has been leaked.
Abroad, however, these scandals are apparently frowned upon.
Just ask Edison Chen.
The international actor (who American film goers may know best from The Grudge 2) was found to have appeared in over 1,300 – yes, 1,300!!! – explicit photographs alongside a series of Hong Kong starlets and pop stars.
The images flooded the Internet over the past few weeks, having been copied by the staff of a computer repair shop from a faulty laptop believed to belong to Edison. As a result, Chen has now resigned from show business.
Away from the acting world now, Edison Chen will have more time to focus on posing with naked women.
“I would like now to apologize to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused and the problems that have arisen from this,” Edison said at a press conference. “I would like to apologize to all the ladies and to all their families for any harm or hurt that they have been feeling. I am sorry.”
He continued:
“These photos were very private and have not been shown to people and were never intended to be shown to anyone. I have failed as a role model… I’ve decided to do this to give myself an opportunity to heal myself and to search my soul. I will dedicate my time to charity and community work within the next few months.”
Wow. So, to recap: posing with naked women causes one to lose one’s celebrity status in Hong Kong. It seems unlikely Katie Rees will be visiting that country any time soon.
