Matchbox Twenty was formed in 1995, and he married Marisol four years later.

'I don't even remember it, I've been married for sixteen years, you know what I mean,' Rob said.

'I have a whole 10-year period at the beginning of my career that I barely remember any more.

'Last year, I met this girl that apparently not only have I met her before, but she lived on my bus for like two weeks and I don't remember her at all, I remember nothing about that entire time.'

'But, there was a lot of drugs, a lot of drinking and a lot of people.'

He went on to say that 'getting that out of the way' has helped his marriage dogged by health scares including Marisol's brain surgery.

‘If I had met my wife when I was a teenager and moved into this world I would always feel like I missed something,' he said.

‘I was kind of getting fed up with it before I met her. I was like “there’s got to be more than this.'' You have to get this out of your system, as a person I feel pretty validated that I can get laid.'

'It has nothing to do with whether I'm attractive, it's nothing about that, it just kind of comes with the job.'

'I know that’s a possibility so I don’t have to be like "oh my god, what am I missing."

‘I know what I’m missing and I’m married to one of the most beautiful women in the world who just takes really good care of me.’

The çomments came after Rove had earlier quizzed Rob about being in a band and being able to 'sex it up' on stage, before they made Rob leave Sam's sister a voicemail on her phone, as she is a huge fan.

In the message, Rob joked: 'Rove wanted me to call and sex you up...we're laying down some Thomas. We will sex you up later. Hold onto that.'

He was also quizzed earlier about his wife's condition, having endured brain surgery in September, and he said she was doing well.

‘My wife had a lesion removed from her brain. She’s still recovering, it's a long recovery, she’s always had immune problems so for her it’s a little slower than most,’ he said.

That same month and after the surgery, he told People she was resting up at home and the pair were 'hoping for the best.'

'We don't know what's gonna happen. We're just glad the surgery went well. She has great doctors; she has a bunch of people supporting her,' he said.

In July, he opened up about her impending surgery on Facebook after a press release about it.

He wrote the pair were going through 'a bit of a rough patch,' with the lesion on the base of her brain.

He added they were being 'cautiously optimistic' about it all.

Marisol has previously battled an autoimmune disorder, which occurs when a person's immune system mistakenly attacks their own body tissues.

Rob is currently in Australia and will return Down Under in February for his solo tour for his new album, Cradlesong.
